Much of our food travels quite a bit before it gets to us. This is great as it means we can get fruit and veg that are either out of season or simply would never grow in the local climate. With this luxury though comes extra emmisions getting these foods to our table.
This challenge is about choosing locally sourced produce. A great way to do that is to try to focus a little extra on what's in season in your region.
Below is a handy selection for some of the fruit and veg that may be in season in your area.
If you don't want to go through all the options above, simply going to your local farmers' market is another quick way to see what's being grown locally and thus in season.
You'll find the produce you buy will be fresher, tastier and in some cases cheaper all thanks to the lower travel time.
This challenge is about getting fruit and veg, but if you want to step it up, try our local shopper challenge which covers all produce such as meats, eggs, cheeses and anything else that's produced locally to you.
